And from Borgo Penigale, Sanity. And the SuperQuadro.

Reported today from Ducati News Today, the 2012 Ducati 1199 will not be saddled with the unfortunate moniker, XTreme.

One of the 1199's many spy spots

Whew!  However, the news is not all good.

The expected name for the new Superbike is better than "XTreme" but that bar was set low enough to serve as a floor support in the third sub-basement of Dante's seventh level of Hell.  Just about anything would be better.

And what is this new name?  So glad you asked.  Without further ado, the new bike may be called...

(Drum roll, please... )

The Ducati SuperQuadro.

(Heard in background: sound of crickets chirping)

Um, okay?  Better than XTreme.  That's a good thing.  Right?

I personally would prefer Superquadretta, the term associated with the V-Twin's very much truncated stroke.

Or how about just calling it the 1199?  Its worked for the 748, 848, 999, 996, 1098. 1099, and the rest of the Superbike family. That fits just fine.

So, Ducati, I have a suggestion for you all:  Let the Monster, Multistrada, Diavel, and Streetfighter carry a name.

The Superbikes don't need one.

Cheers!
